Just watched this again with my 21 year old son who is also an artist. He wants so badly to only do his art (which is music)and not have to have any other type of job. I think listening to your dad explain how there is no road without bumps and that achieving your dreams is possible, you just have to work really hard at it, touched home with him. Your dad is uber cool and so are you and your mom. Thanks for sharing a small piece of yall’s life with us. It was just so beautiful.

all of the images of trees and spare pieces of wood have made me homesick for Canada. it is a special place, isn’t it? trees, beer and rowboats – i haven’t quite met a place like it.

Just say congratulations for your work together with your father, for your shop, your fotografs, for the way you do things: with love. The film is just fantastic and I really had to cry several times, it’s so moving. It’s such a beautiful way to work together. And the place where your parents live, oh my god, it’s like paradise :) And I also wanted to say that I’m obsessed with you cakes: everyone of them look soooo great—like an art piece…

Congratulations on the success of Herriot Grace. And thank you for sharing this beautiful film. I watched this with my husband, who is a woodworker, (now a side hobby and therapeutic past time). It inspired him to spend more time back in his shop and enjoy himself once again! Your father’s pieces are beautiful and your relationship with him is so precious! :)

I am so touched by this. My dad is also a wood worker and it is his true passion. After working for 35 years he has also finally retired and spends all his time in his workshop doing what he loves.
So inspiring to see the special relationship you have with him.

Your dad (&you!) are just so very inspiring and wondrous at what you do!
I think the reason the ‘japanese and koreans’ (I think they were quoted by your dad) are such amazing craftsmen is that they master their skills by patiently and slowly working away for a lifetime… honing in on every detail, and working away with patience. Seems to me your dad is just the same. A true craftsman equal to any other.
